When Jesus died on the cross He said, "It is finished!" (John 19:30, NKJV)
What is the meaning of "It is finished"? What is finished?
Our time of being in the quality of selfishness - is finished.
Our time of thinking only about ourselves with no regard for others - is finished.
Our time in exile, being separated from God - is finished.
Meaning, the pleasures that we got from being in the quality of selfishness, thinking only about ourselves with no regard for others, no longer satisfy and fulfill us. All these selfish pleasures have been depleted. It's time for something new.
Jesus was basically saying, our time in the quality of selfishness is over, it is now time to return to God, to return to the quality of bestowal/love of others/altruism.
In this way, we have to seek to benefit others instead of ourselves. We have to be genuinely concerned for the welfare and well-being of others. By doing this, we'll return to God in quality.
