What Does It Mean To Love One Another?

Today we're all immersed in selfishness, seeking to benefit ourselves with no regard for others. As such, we cause harm to ourselves, others and all of nature.

Our internal qualities have to change from selfishness to bestowal. We have to seek to benefit others instead of ourselves. This is love.

Love is when you think of others instead of yourself. Love is when you seek to benefit others instead of yourself. Love is when you seek to do good to others instead of yourself. Love is about others instead of yourself.

How do we 'do' love? How do we love others? What do we need to do to love others? What does it take to love others? What does it mean to love others?

Love is a two step process:
  1. First, we have to rise above our egos and stop harming others. We have to restrict the use of our selfish tendencies and put our egos to death. We have to stop using our egos, stop being immersed in selfishness, and stop harming ourselves, others and all of nature.
    • Of this, Jesus said, "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me." (Matthew 16:24, NIV)
    • Jesus also said, "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's [selfish] life for one's friends." (John 15:13, NIV)
  2. Second, we have to seek to benefit others instead of ourselves. We have to connect with each other in mutual concern and responsibility. We have to establish a mutually beneficial reciprocal relationship between us, where I look after you and you look after me.
    • Of this, Jesus said, "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another." (John 13:34, NIV)
    • Love has an element of sacrifice. Just as Jesus sacrificed His life for us, we too must sacrifice our selfish lives for one another. We have to give up our selfish tendencies and connect with each other in mutual concern and responsibility. This is love.
In everything we do, in mind, heart and action, we should seek to benefit others instead of ourselves, because this is love. This is the purpose of creation and this is the next state of humanity's development - to bring us to love, to bring us back to God.

May The One True God, The Infinite God, The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob guide us, may He lead us and may He show us the way. God is with us and to Him we shall all return.
