Children Share But Adults Don't

We encourage children to share. If little Johnny was ambitious and hoarded all the toys, while little Annie had none, we'd ask little Johnny to share his toys with little Annie. We expect this behaviour of children.

But when it comes to adults, we praise ambition and money hoarding. If big John was ambitious and hoarded all the money, while big Anne had none, we'd tell big Anne to work harder and make her own way.

Why is there a discrepancy between what we expect of children and what we expect of adults? In everything we do, we should seek to benefit others instead of ourselves.
