Awards For People Who Contribute Positively To Society

With respect to awards, let's compare the quality of selfishness with the quality of bestowal:
  1. Selfishness:  Today we're all immersed in selfishness, seeking to benefit ourselves with no regard for others. Our entire society has been built on the quality of selfishness.
    • Values:  This means that we value things that are rooted in selfishness: aggressive competition, being the strongest person, being the richest person, being the smartest person, being the most powerful person etc.
    • Awards:  Even the awards we give out are rooted in selfishness. There are numerous awards in film, television, theater, music, sports, science etc., but they only benefit a select few.
  2. Bestowal:  We need to change from personal selfishness to mutual bestowal. We need to seek to benefit others instead of ourselves. We need to build a new society that's based on the quality of bestowal.
    • Values:  This means that our values will change. We'll begin to value things that are rooted in bestowal: cooperation, collaboration, unity, connection, equality, harmony and balance with nature etc.
      • If society begins to value people who contribute positively to society, then people will want to contribute positively to society so they too can be appreciated.
    • Awards:  We need to find new ways to reward people who make a positive contribution to society. We could create an awards ceremony, call it The Altruistic Awards or The Benevolent Awards.
      • There could be several categories such aspeople who help other people, people who help animals, people who help trees and plants, people who help the environment such as the air, land, water etc. There could also be sub-categories for people who contribute locally, regionally, nationally, globally etc. Can you imagine such an awards ceremony? It would be magnificent.
