I've heard this story a few times and there are several versions online. It's about a man who lived by a river, a man who had faith in God.
A man lived by a river and the river was expected to flood. An evacuation order was issued for the area but the man chose to ignore the evacuation order because he believed God would save him.
As the flood waters began to rise, a car came by and offered to take him to safety. He refused saying, "God will save me."
The waters rose even higher and a boat came by and offered to take him to safety. Again he refused saying, "God will save me."
The waters rose so high that he ended up on the roof of his house. A helicopter came by and offered to take him to safety. Again he refused saying, "God will save me."
Eventually he was overcome by the flood waters and drowned. When he got to heaven he asked God, "Why didn't you save me?" God said, "I tried to save you. I sent you an evacuation order, a car, a boat and a helicopter. Why didn't you let me save you?"
God uses us to help each other. In everything we do, we should seek to benefit others instead of ourselves.
