The reason we enjoy habits and routines is because habits become second nature, which means that we don't have to think about anything or expend any more energy than we have to.
However, habits can be changed. We change flavours, tastes, schedules, routines, habits, anything. Things that were unimportant can become important.
For example, today we're habitually immersed in selfishness seeking to benefit ourselves with no regard for others. However, we can change from personal selfishness to mutual bestowal.
If it's important to me to discover The Upper World, The Creator, my eternal life, instead of being immersed in this world, my corporeal life, then I can change my habits to realize my goals. I don't throw away this life, I use it to attain the next world.
In everything we do, we should seek to benefit others instead of ourselves.
