- Masters:
- This is associated with the quality of selfishness.
- Today, we're all immersed in personal selfishness, seeking to benefit ourselves with no regard for others. We want to be better than, greater than and more important than others.
- We want to use others for our own personal profit and gain, and we want them to serve us, which is a bad thing because it leads to inequality, isolation, loneliness and unhappiness.
- Servants:
- This is associated with the quality of bestowal.
- We have to change from personal selfishness to mutual bestowal, and seek to benefit others instead of ourselves. If we adopt other people's desires as our own and seek to benefit them instead of ourselves, then we serve their desires, we serve them.
- If we serve each other, then we'll connect in mutual bestowal, which is a good thing because it leads to connection, unity, equality and happiness.
- Jesus explained this when he said, "... the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves ... I am among you as one who serves." (Luke 22:26-27, NIV)
- Jesus demonstrated his servitude when he washed his disciples feet. (John 13:1-17, NIV)
We're different and we have different roles to play, but we're all equal and we're all one family. In everything we do, we should seek to benefit others instead of ourselves. We should serve each other.
