Connection Makes Us Happy

Connection makes us happy, however, today we're all immersed in personal selfishness.

We tend to interact with each other based on the principles of selfish trade: What can you do for me that benefit me, and what can I do for you that benefits me.

Either way, we're selfishly seeking to benefit ourselves. We feel as though others are constantly trying to take advantage of us, which they are, just as we're constantly trying to take advantage of others for our own selfish profit and gain. This leads to dysfunctional relationships that are rooted in mistrust, which makes us unhappy, isolated and lonely.

To distract ourselves from our unhappiness, isolation and loneliness, we engage in even more negative and destructive behaviour, which makes us even more unhappy, isolated and lonely.

We have to change the way we interact with each other, by changing from personal selfishness (seeking to benefit ourselves) to mutual bestowal (seeking to benefit others).

If we connect in mutual bestowal, we'll find true happiness because we're social creatures and connection makes us happy.

Instead of connecting with hidden agendas, we should connect with each other for connection's sake, to make each other happy.

In everything we do, we should seek to benefit others instead of ourselves.

Selfish Happiness Versus Altruistic Happiness

  • Selfish happiness is when you think about your own personal happiness.
  • Altruistic happiness is when you think about other people's happiness, when other people's happiness makes you happy.
  • In everything we do, we should seek to benefit others instead of ourselves.

Can You Walk Away From Your Current Life?

We tend to define ourselves by our jobs, our social status, our wealth, our education, our material possessions - our houses, cars, clothes etc.

But can you walk away from your current life? Can you leave it all behind? Can you start a new life in a new way? Or are you emotionally and psychologically attached to your current life?

What if the things in your current life were taken from you? What if you lost your job, your house, your possessions? How would it affect you? Would you be devastated or would you find a new simplified way to live?

We need to simplify our lives and focus only on meeting our basic needs - food, water, clothing, shelter, healthcare, education etc.

We need to stop obsessing about acquiring things, we need to stop trying to get as much as possible. These things don't make us happy.

The only thing that makes us happy is connection, connecting with others in a deep meaningful way. In everything we do, we should seek to benefit others instead of ourselves.

Do I Make You Happy?

Do I make you happy?
I can’t tell
Reveal
Yourself

Do I make you happy?
I don’t know
Infinite
Desires show

Do I make you happy?
I can’t see
Perfection
Unity

Do I make you happy?
I can’t say
Stay
Today

Do I make you happy?
I hope I do
Know
I love you
